If you are new to the neighbourhood (like me) and looking for suggestions on special spots in Observatory, this one’s for you. Here are my top 6 picks for Observatory, whether it’s for a quick cup of coffee, a breakfast or a night of drinking.
1. Polish up on your swing at the River Club | 1.4km from Obs Court
No equipment, no problem! There are golf clubs to rent, and R55 will get you a bucket of 50 balls, and a R315 monthly membership comes along with member deals including: Unlimited balls and access to the driving range, Mashie course, chipping greens and putting surfaces; weekly master classes; a 10% discount on breakfast, lunch and supper at The Slug & Lettuce Restaurant & Bar; and more. 2. Weekend Breakfast at Cocoa Cha Chi | 1.1km from Obs Court
This restaurant, open 07:00 to 23:00 every day is one of my favourite breakfast spots in Observatory. My go-to order is the Wah Wah Wonderful, an Eggs Benedict with a twist: fried eggs, melted cheddar, spinach and bacon on layers of toasted farmhouse bread with a generous helping of zesty mustard hollandaise sauce. They also offer a R55 breakfast and coffee special before 09:00 each day. Visit http://cocoa.co.za for more information.
3. Wednesday Night “Obviously Standup” at Trenchtown |0.8km from Obs Court
Comedy shows every Wednesday at 20:30 for R40 each, and R20 each for groups of 4 or students with valid student cards. The restaurant also offers a broad selection of drinks, cocktails and a mix of Pub and Mexican food. Like Trenchtown on Facebook for updates.
